After almost 3 years of owning my beloved Sony 60GB PlayStation 3, it has broken. Never thought this day would come :'(. Everything on the system works fine but the Blu-ray drive (im guessing) since it does not read any off my discs. I called PlayStation to see if there was a way to maybe fix it by maybe cleaning the lens or something, but the the answer I got was that my PS3 would have to be sent in for repairs. An additional 149.99 would have to be paid since my warranty was out :(. The strange part about this, is that it was working the night before...O well, I guess it still exceeded the life span of an average Xbox360 haha. Looks like I'll be getting Madden 10 and MW2 for 360 now...

So... You aren't going to repair it? MW2 isn't out for months... Sent it to me if you are just gonna toss it!

Any guesses as to which game(s) put the most wear on your drive? What did you play the most? Also have you tried any non BR discs?

The 60 GB model is not that reliable. Fortunately for me I purchased the extended warranty and it covered my YLOD. Still, the PS3 is the best console I have ever owned.

@Man_with_banana: Actually, the 60 GB is incredibly reliable and perhaps one of the most reliable models out there, considering I've owned mine for more than 2 years after purchasing it USED. Blu-Ray drives will burn out regardless of model.

@Mike Hartnett: Well, fortunately mine died 1 month prior to the 2 year extended which I had purchased. My observations from other forums led me to believe that the 60gb was the most unreliable model.

@Dana Olson: haha im not tossing my PS3. It is such a great overall console compared to the others. I will be getting it fixed because now that I don't have a Blu-ray player I miss it haha

@BamBamBoozled: I'm not sure my brother said he was playing LBP the night before and it worked fine and yes I have tried normal DVDs and CDs. The PS3 recognizes the DVD and CD but can't read them...
