Platinum Confusion

With this weeks release of Anarchy: Rush Hour, and it's 45 trophies plus a Platinum(!), I haven't a clue anymore about what games "qualify" for Platinum status.

I used to believe it had something to do with retail vs. PSN only releases, but that theory was shot down some time ago with releases like Trine & WipEout HD (and on the reverse end, retail releases like the Pinball Gottlieb collection which lacks a Platinum).

Then I thought it was somewhat related to pricing. At $8, Anarchy pretty much blows that particular reasoning out of the water and onto shore, where it currently flops about gasping for air.

Clearly, Sony's not doing too much to direct how trophies are implemented, save the requirement that games need to have trophy support of some sort.

It's also got me wondering about the response other developers/publishers are going to have to the release of Anarchy. Will we be seeing more releases of budget priced titles with a lengthy list of trophies and a platinum to match? At the very least, game developers must be looking at this situation and wondering why their $10 title doesn't have a platinum to entice trophy hunters.

I've got concerns that this could somewhat undermine the trophy systems integrity, if any ol' game can "qualify" for platinum status.

I'm pretty sure that Sony dictates what games can have a full set of trophies. I don't know what criteria they use, but Anarchy is a big game which I could have seen released on a disc and having it completely overlooked. I think what I think because I'm pretty sure Dylan Cuthbert once said that no PJ game has a platinum yet because they said no. I can't think of any game that should have more or less trophies, aside from that Pinball collection - every disc game should have platinums, IMO.

@Dana Olson: I'm wondering if Anarchy was set to go as a full retail release and plans changed at the last minute.

Perhaps it is up to the developers. Perhaps all developers are required to include a minimum amount of trophies but if they choose to go beyond that then they can qualify for Platinum status. For example, lets say that every game is required to have at least 10 trophies to be released on the PS3 and must have at least 30 trophies to include a Platinum trophy. Perhaps it is up to the developer as to whether they want to include just enough trophies so the game can be released or do they want to go the full monty.

EDIT: I just made those numbers up, I don't know what the real requirements are.

@TWIZTID1: I don't think so because of what I mentioned before - Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert lamenting the fact that Sony won't "let" them have a Platinum in their games. Also, the way it works is every full game, PSN game, and DLC add-on that qualifies gets a certain number of experience points, which can be divided amongst trophies however the developer sees fit. Bronze are worth the least, silver worth more, and gold the most (except for the platinum in the full games). I don't know the exact values the trophies are worth in experience points, but you could roughly figure it out if you analyzed the data of a bunch of games.

Edit: I've seen two different sets of numbers but the result is about the same. Here's one. The basic gist is that 1 Platinum = 2 Gold = 6 Silver = 12 Bronze.
