Back in the Summer of 2049, in a world of oddly smooth rubble naps a man and his staff, a voice asks him to trade his soul for something to save his daughter. Apparently this startles him into awakening and he takes his frustrations out on a nearby book "damn book". He is a very point faced man with a permanent grimace on his face and is clearly not a fan of literature.
Oh no! Monsters, they appear to be made of some kind of hoovering techno paper and are completely inept at attacking as they stand around in a circle waiting to be beaten off with a stick.
Success, but alas my poor daughter has been horking up a lung in the back room, worried she is going to attract more monsters she promises to stop coughing, thus the main character wanders out into the main room again with an ominus warning "Don't you ever touch this book", the book which has somehow magically transported itself from the front room to the back... she agrees and coughs more.
Now back in the front room more monsters have appeared of the same useless kind, while laying the smack down on them a cut scene ensues where (althought I hadn't been hit) the main character is sent flying uselessly across the room leaving the monsters to march into the back , presumably to have their way with daughter-face. Not to be outdone our hero(?) crawls to the book (now in the main room again... somehow) and touches it unleashing a fury of red monster punches.
Now to get outside where additional monsters (probably hearing about the monster-daughter gang bang) have gathered, instead of wholesome back room fun they find only red monster hand punching, ding level 2, ding level 3, hope it stays this easy. Small gremlin techno paper monsters have appeared now, ding level 4 and a new ability "Dark Blast" uh oh. enemies are crawling all over the place now but I can now charge up the super punch. Monsters hate the super punch as it also causes them to move in slllooooow motion. Ding level 5,6,7,8,9. Not bad for my first encounter. Makes me wonder how few monsters he killed before I came along that he was still level 1.
Ding level 10, new power Dark execution, but it replaced my old power... weird. Use it 5-6 times to get to lvl 15, and I now have dark lance... it replaces the old dark execution eh...I feel this is too easy and a massive letdown is coming, some sort of power drain, or a stabbing or something.
The music is very sad right now, during this 'struggle', think FF:Crisis Core ending sad, I dont like where this might be headed. The world outside is very grey and boring. Level 18 and the last monster fell only for me to hear some groaning from inside the dilapidated old gas station where I left daughter-face, better go cheAAAOOO CRAP a giant paper boss monster complete with health bar. Aiming is fairly intuitive at this point, but you need to stop to charge making dodging difficult, but no matter, paper boss monster is easily dealt with (jumping hero to level 30) and its off to see daughter-face still coughing up a damn storm but having managed to find a possibly decades old cookie, she tries to split it in a touching father daughter moment only to pass out causing the hero to glare at the book (now on the floor in the room with her). At this point I get a birds eye view of low res city, and its apparent the prologue, and this write up, are over.
... Oh great, now Im in the past for some reason, I knew all the ass kick powers were too good to be true...

I thought it skips to 1300 years in the future, not the past?

@Dana Olson: maybe it is the future, I dont know yet as I am 10 minutes in, All i know is I went from snowy Apocalypse (modern looking) to ye olde town

Nier and Weiss are some kind of warrior/book odd couple. I want a spin off where they live together and Nier wont clean up after himself and Weiss constantly comes home to find his 50 yr old scoth drank or used to clean a wound.
Such a good game. I like the naming scheme you have going for the characters... daughter-face lol.
