Grab a paper or calculator and keep a running total as we go. Let's begin now.
First thing you will need is one PlayStation Move controller. These will sell for $49.99.
Now, do you already own a PlayStation Eye? You need one. If you don't own one, pick one up for $39.99.
But wait! There is a bundle with the Move mini-game compilation, Sports Champions, the Move controller, and the PlayStation Eye. Are you interested in this game? It would sell for $39.99 as a standalone game, so you can logically subtract that from the bundle price of $99.99, meaning you'd technically only be paying $60 for the Eye and Move controller, a savings of about thirty bucks. If you plan to buy this bundle instead of the Move and Eye separately, subtract $29.98 from your running total.
Now, do you plan to play games that require moving your character around with an analog stick, such as SOCOM 4 or Killzone 3? If so, these are on the Navigation controller, which will sell for $29.99. You could alternately use the left side of a DualShock 3 or SIXAXIS controller, to save money, but really, you may as well go all out, right?
Some games that Sony have demoed show one player using two Move controllers. You're probably going to want to play these games, correct? Add another $49.99 to your running total.
Sony has revealed that the most Navs you're ever going to want is two, because they've limited the setup to use two Moves and two Navs at once. If you are interested in having a second Navigation controller for the local multiplayer games that will support it, add another $29.99 to your total.
You could stop here, or you could keep going. There may be some party games that support three or four players, each with their own Move controller. Do you think you'd ever play a game with three players? If so, add another $49.99 to your total. And if you have visions of playing with the max number of players, or just want to complete the set, add one final $49.99 price tag to your total.
Where are you at now? Staggering, or manageable? Do you still want more? OK!
Do you want a standalone charge station from Sony? You can use it to charge any two Move or Nav controllers at once. Add $29.99. What's that? You want to charge four Move controllers at the same time? Add another $29.99. Huh? You're crazy! Nobody needs to charge all four Move controllers and both Navigation controllers at once! But if you insist... Add another $29.99.
We're not done yet. The first of hopefully very few plastic peripherals has been revealed. It's a gun addon for the Move controller. Do you want one of these? Add $19.99 for each Move controller that you want one of these shells for.
OK, that's about it. Oh wait! The games! You may have chosen to get the bundle, which comes with Sports Champions and a demo disc, but anything else beyond that is going to probably run about $39.99 for a brand new Move-specific game. Don't add these to your total; this exercise was only about figuring out your hardware expenses. You'll probably need to factor in the cost of a larger coffee table, or some kind of large storage unit to hold all of this crap, as well. But that's in your hands.
Myself, I do own the Eye already, but I won't count that since I want the demo disc and may as well get Sports Champions, since the bundle is a good deal. I plan to charge the devices using the good ol' USB cable, and probably won't ever need four Moves. And don't get me started on dumb plastic peripherals! My total comes to: $139.98. I may end up getting a second Nav if some kind of cool multiplayer game comes out, but I don't plan on it, up-front.
What's your final total?

Very nice, Dana! Starts to make the rumoured price point for Kinect at $150 sound reasonable. Until you start to think about games ...

@Brian Kamm: I saw a total of zero games I wanted for Kinect, so the total would remain at $150 no matter how I calculate it.

When you look at the price of a Wii-mote and nunchuck it is basically the same for just the controllers. It'll be $160 to pick up 2 wands and 2 sub controllers.

@Josh Rai: and MotionPlus. And batteries.

@Dana Olson: The motion plus attachments equal the PS eye basically and Move stuff does not need batteries. IMO Move is very comparable to the Wii pricing, I think that was Sony's strategy, though I do think they should bundle the wand and sub-controller into one package with a $10 saving, that would increase sales drastically.

@Josh Rai: my point is, Move is cheaper if you calculate it out... Even with the Eye. Though the Wii can handle four Nunchuks, whereas Move can only do two. I don't know of any Wii games that use four Nunchuks or four MotionPluses, though. Apples to apples, Move = Remote+MotionPlus, Nav = Nunchuk, Eye = Sensor Bar. Total for 4 controllers plus 2 analog attachments plus sensor = $300 for Move, $320 for Wii. Batteries are extra concern and cost on the Wii.

new start for me,
2x Move+2xNav plus wait for the compilation title to inevitably hit used game stores everywhere for substantial savings.

@CyanXVII: Dang, dude...you just made the rounds, didn't ya? A bunch of comments, a slew of game reviews, and you jumped right to the top of Tawkn's PSN leaderboard! Nice.
You been offline for a while, building up this surprise attack?
CyanXVII

@Jason LaFave: Nah, I check here all the time to see reviews and such, but I usually playing games too much to really blog about any of them. considering that there aren't any games coming out til late fall early spring I have nothing but free time on my hands. felt like venting a little/ talking about games a little. just moved and haven't found a good group of game nerds to discuss good gaming with yet.

@CyanXVII: Oh, I just meant whether you'd been offline on your PS3 for a while, and just synced (sp?) a bunch of trophies at once. Maybe you've been climbing the leaderboard, and I just missed it?
CyanXVII

@Jason LaFave: No your right, I haven't logged onto this site for months so yeah my trophy count has grown with getting synched to this site.

It's kinda that. We sync everyone, but the leaderboard only shows "active" users - people who have logged in within X number of days, so that's why the sudden return to the top of the charts.

As the sucker I am, I'll be getting the Move with some of the mentioned peripherals. Already have the PSEye, and am really looking forward to getting it out of closet storage.
