The blog entry promises 'A Special Surprise' in the title yet in the body of the post we see,

Oh yeah, there's also a big (sentence deleted by Capcom and SCEA PR ninjas)... Can you believe it? Wow, how can you not be excited about that? I'm just glad that I was finally able to talk about it. It's been a long time coming but I'm ecstatic that it's actually going to happen.

Obviously this little ruse is done on purpose to build hype yet in the comments section John replies to a poster,

Cool contest John..but I am sure I won't win, I never do.

I must say that it is awesome that you announced Dead Rising for the PSN, right? ;-)

Who announced it? Me? I don't think so! :)

Seems like a well placed smiley in that answer.

And if Dead Rising is coming to PS3 that can only mean one thing about Dead Rising 2... right?

If you are not familiar with the Xbox 360 (and lame ass Wii port of a sort) here is a GameTrailers review:

In other good news he also reiterated Capcom's "commitment" to bringing new PSone Classics to the PSN in 2009.

"So what's in store for 09? Well, I'm working with Grace and Ro at SCEA to come up with some innovative ways we can offer games and programs on the PlayStation Store. You can expect to see a whole slew of downloadable PSP and PSone titles from our vault next year."

Dead Rising, the only game on the 360 that ever caught my interest for longer than a few minutes. If that makes it way over to the PS3, I'd be free of that lingering uncertainty: I wouldn't need to get a 360 for this title alone, no matter how affordable the Microsoft's console has become. I was considering it, too... but held off, figuring the Sony-Capcom relationship was strengthening to the point where a PS3 version of Dead Rising would become increasingly likely.

Nice faux box art, too.

@Wayne J. Rodrique: Yep...hope it does pan out...Dead Rising was one of the titles that I was interested in and had me thinking 360 before I bought the PS3. If MS had made a more reliable system I'd be in the 360 camp right now.

@Colin McFedran: My sentiments, exactly. I recognize the 360 for what it is: A decent software lineup, with hardware that most likely will fail long before its time.

I understand there are possible exceptions, but there exists a persistent threat of premature hardware failure; and therein lies my lack of willingness to get a 360 - I don't want to chance getting a game system, knowing that the RRoD MAY occur.

While the PS3 is also made by man, and ergo is also prone to hardware issues, it doesn't fail anywhere near the order of the 360, which brings to me a stronger sense of trust for the system's overall integrity. But, beyond the issues of hardware trust, I wonder this: If both the PS3 and 360 were released at around the same time, where would they be? (Regarding games, sales, etc, etc.) Probably an invalid curiosity, but I wonder all the same. I imagine, the PS3 would lag behind, though trivially so.

I don't care for the larger offering of games on Microsoft's console, not when the bigger concern at the forefront of my mind, is whether or not the hardware will RRoD on me at any potential time. I find that prospect distasteful... It's like, if I were to get a 360, it's only to see how long I can enjoy it, before I have to call Xbox customer support for a coffin. I can't enjoy my gaming with expectations like that, weighing heavily as they do.

Anyway.
