Eurogamer has an interview up regarding Fallout 3.
When asked if the PS3 version is getting trophies in a future patch or not, Bethesda's Pete Hines replied:
"It's going to happen, just not sure when. We'll let folks know when we have something more definitive."
He also confirmed that PS3 won't see any DLC. Oh well. Bring on the trophy patch, and maybe I'll buy this game.

In case you hadn't heard, the PS3 version of Fallout 3 has a ton of bugs and issues. The fact that a game this late ships without trophy support just goes to show how little the developer cares about the PS3. If they do indeed patch it to add trophies in, then maybe there is hope for them to patch all the game-breaking bugs, no?

The addition of Trophies would indeed get me interested in the PS3 version, I just wish they had made the effort to make the PS3 version shine like Oblivion did.
@Dana Olson: To be honest, I don't find the achievement system on the 360 all that great. You don't really win anything special, it's more like a glorified system message. I guess the same could be said about trophies..

@Dana Olson: The reason why I feel that the Xbox Achievement system is better is because all games support it and there's tons more to earn. So far with the PS3 trophy system devs are being lazy and only putting in maybe 10 or 15 trophies per title...why even bother if they're going to be chinsy about it?
Plus, I also like the idea how each achievement has a point value based on it's difficulty level which is added to your global GamerScore...which you're ranked on globally.
Those two facts alone make it much better than the trophy system, which is what I was kind of expecting from Sony.

@Tayler Bell: Oblivion wasn't shined up or changed in any way for the PS3 version...it's basically just a port of the PC version. At least GOTY edition is that way. It's exactly the same in every way.

@GagnierA: Actually it was, hence the delay on the PS3 release. I've compared the 360 version to the PS3 version side by side and there are noticeable differences when it comes to draw distance and texture filtering, not to mention less slowdown when in combat.
None of them will compare graphically to the PC version, however they also don't crash as much as the PC version.

@GagnierA: ok, the ability to add trophies to games was only made recently, so of course not every game is going to have them. They're starting to, and now it's the odd game that doesn't support them - such as Bethesda at the moment. Yes, Sony was behind Microsoft in that regard, but that doesn't make the system itself any better than the other.
What games do you actually own that have trophies? Are you talking about the PSN download games? Of course a $10 game isn't going to have dozens and dozens of trophies like a $60 game - that's just silly. The way it works is a game is alloted a certain amount of experience points, and the developers choose to divide it up amongst the trophies how they see fit. Cheap games = less experience that contributes to your level. Trophies have several levels - gold, bronze, silver, platinum, and each are worth different experience values... based on difficulty...

@Tayler Bell: Well, I wasn't intending on this to become a complete discussion about Oblivion...but increased draw distance and minimal texture filtering doesn't classify as being a re-polish. The "less slowdown when in combat" thing is just because the PS3's processor is alot better than the Xbox's...has nothing to do with recoding anything.
Also, I didn't experience any crashing with the PC version...I had a great PC at that time though and could run everything maxed out...some of the lesser configurations had difficulties I guess, but I was oblivious to all of that.

@Dana Olson: There's no point in doing that since it's all based on what hardware you have in your machine, we could toss a "just barely makes it" video card in a machine and try running Oblivion and the 360 version would look way better.
@GagnierA: what I was getting at is that they spent the extra time on Oblivion for ps3 so it would use the hardware, unlike Fallout 3. As far as you claiming that the PC version didn't crash...well you see I run a really nice rig...all the time. On release, the pc version would run well, but not for any more than 4 hours or I'd get memory leaks and the game would crash... sorta like Morrowind did when it first came out on pc. I'm sure with the newest patch for the pc it runs without a hitch now. The main issue I had playing the pc version versus the console version was that on the PC I found myself more interested in modding the game and turning it into something else, rather than actually playing the game that Bethesda delivered.

@Tayler Bell: Well you're arguing with GagnierA about PS3 vs 360, yet he said that the PS3 and PC versions look the same, and you're ignoring that he said that.
Regardless of what PCs *I* own or what OS *I* run, his point still stands, since the PS3 is a more capable machine, what they actually did was pared down the 360 port to run on it, and basically did a direct port of the PC version. Bethesda don't like the PS3. It's not a secret.

@GagnierA: Crappy Ram? I don't think so. I believe it was crappy programming on the developer's side since it doesn't usually happen, but typically happens on every game Bethesda releases for pc (but hasn't happened "yet" for Fallout 3). But you already knew that since you've seen the gear I use.

A great feature to implement though would be to get a notification in your profile when someone replies to you in a thread somewhere (ie. when there's an @GagnierA, it should let me know where I should go to reply...it's alot of work jumping around all the time)
@Tayler Bell: No, I've never seen the "gear" you use so I'm not entirely sure why you'd assume that I have. Are you famous or something and your computer has been featured on a TV show? Is your name actually Kevin Pereira? It's funny how you say that you didn't have crappy RAM, but then couldn't support your claim. I would almost be willing to guess that it was Kingston or Crucial...tsk tsk...crap.

@Tayler Bell: 800? ONLY 800? That's pretty much the lowest end of the spectrum for gaming RAM, lol. I also never said that the memory leak was non-existent...I merely stated that I never had that problem. I can see that you're getting a little hot under the collar about this issue though, so I'll stop razzing you now ;-)

@Dana Olson: me? joking? about what? 800 RAM or stopping with giving this person their first stroke? lol. If it's the case of the RAM, then maybe I was a little unreasonable...it's more towards the mid-grade mark, considering that it's DDR2, but when there's frequencies like 1000, 1066, 1150 (and higher) available, where would you put it? That's not even taking into account buffered and unbuffered, not to mention that DDR3 has been out for ages. The best I'll go is mid-grade because it's definitely not cutting-edge.
It's also commonly known that memory leaks can also be blamed on FSB and the speed/type/age of the processor being used as well. So I really don't know what else to say about it.

It could also be caused by faulty video memory as well, but with most newer video cards being equipped with DDR3, that's very unlikely. Of course I'd never conclusively rule out bad programming, but it's more a question about the environmental factors alot of the time because it must've worked on the dev machines before they released it.
Then again, you never know with that either. Deadlines and release pressure become a huge factor when a title is highly anticipated...there's many cases where something has been released not entirely finished and then patched shortly after just to please the masses and get the product out there.
If there was never issues with environmental factors, the entire BETA phase of every title ever released could be completely abolished and there'd be no need for real world testing.

How fast is the RAM in the PS3? It is plenty fast enough for Oblivion.

@Dana Olson: Yeah, but the conversation moved away from Oblivion (which was my main mission here) and on to just RAM specifically. In any event, I was just being a stickler about it anyway...no harm, no foul :-) lol

Why would the presence of trophies make this a game worth buying all of a sudden? You've been wanting this game for a while, did you change your mind somewhere and not tell me about it? Trophies are stupid if you ask me...or at least not as big a deal as everyone makes them out to be. I like the Xbox Achievement system better, but that's about all I like about Xbox...which is why I bought a PS3 instead.
