944 It's interesting. I never bought WipEout HD. I downloaded it from Plus for free. But I can't say "I got $20 out of $50 back right there" not only because I don't get to keep it beyond my subscription, but because I never planned to buy the game to begin with... If I had, I would have already owned it.
This is the one problem I see with the Plus discount club (that is indeed how I look at it - a discount club). If they don't give us stuff that is current, it's going to be pretty much useless to anyone who they are trying to target (the "heavy PSN user"). In fact, it could backfire... For example: when any new games come out, say DeathSpank or Journey, for example, I may not buy until a discount hits PS+, to maximize my subscription benefits.
So anyhow, I grabbed the theme and think it's actually nice, despite the lack of animation. I grabbed the two avatars. I grabbed Age of Zombies and WipEout HD rentals. I briefly tried Rally Cross and was SUPER glad I never wasted six bucks on it - I wouldn't have bought it either, but who knows, maybe PS+ just saved me $6 from a moment of weakness (I impulse buy crap sometimes). I think I didn't own any of the free DLC, but again, wouldn't have bought any of it except for the MagicOrbz stuff, and maybe Mahjong Tales pack, though I haven't played either game since about the time I got them.
Stupidly, I "took advantage" of the Midway game discounts. I already had MKII, but it didn't show that I already bought it, for some reason. Anyhow, Gauntlet II is... well, it's Gauntlet II. Rampage is Rampage... Only thing I thought was really worth it was Rampart, and that's just going by my nostalgia (loved it as a kid on SNES), I haven't played it yet on the PS3.
I don't own Smash Cars yet, but I *may* grab it... I dunno, the savings on it is like what, $3? I don't know that I have reason to buy it. I have enough car games right now, plus GT5 coming soon. We'll see... I have a few weeks to decide.

@Dana Olson: Funny, I was thinking along the same lines as your WipEout HD comment, when I was adding Age of Zombies to my collection, here on Tawkn. It went something like, "Well, I guess I own it..."
I grabbed the theme, avatars, Age of Zombies, and Mahjong DLC. I'll do the inFamous trial at some point, because I never did play it, and I'd like to see how it works. I'm also pretty sure I'll finally grab MagicOrbz with the discount, and since I get all the DLC for free. Oh, and I'll definitely be grabbing the Fat Princess DLC.

@Jason LaFave: funny, I hadn't even thought to add WipEout to my collection, since I don't technically own it. I don't think I will, either.
You may as well grab all free DLC and avatars while you can, even if you don't download them because it's free only for the month, but you get to keep that stuff permanently. You never know if you'll wanna grab Smash Cars or *whatever* later on.

Off topic, but speaking of Creat, I wanna contact them and tell them they should do a playing cards solitaire game for PSP. Maybe have some multiplayer card games on there too. I'm baffled that there's no solitaire on PS3 or PSP. There's not, right? Or did I somehow overlook it...? Either way, I think they'd be perfect for it, and they're just breaking into PSP development, with the couple Minis they've put out.

I've picked up Age of Zombies, the avatars, theme & the one Magic Orbz DLC pack I don't have (Jungle). Initially hated the premium theme because I was expecting it to be dynamic, and the background is lame. Now I've warmed to it, or at least the icons, which I'm using now with a family photo.
I'm along the same line as you guys with the way I look at the so called "free" games. In looking at getting my moneys worth, I'm not counting the 4 games a month, but looking at the value of the stuff we actually get to keep, as well as the savings on the discounted items.
I'm giving some consideration to picking up one or two more Creat games, but I dunno.
@Dana Olson: I'd suggest that the modest discount on the Fat Princess DLC is a sign that Sony is aware that if they're going to target the core gamer, they need to offer day and date discounts. Here's hoping they continue to keep this in mind. WipEout HD is a nice AAA title to include, but if most of the core has this, whats going to keep us interested?

@Tayler Bell: I think he was asking about two PS3s, same user, rather than one PS3, multiple users. I haven't upgraded my fat PS3 to a newer firmware (still has OtherOS support), so I can't test it.
@Jason LaFave: I think I twittered to them about that. Or maybe it was Dylan.. Could you imagine how awesome a PixelJunk Cards game would be?

Yes...that is correct...If I own two or 3 ps3 all with the same logon...does playstation plus apply to all...Sony's website is woeful.

I'm still not really getting any value from my plus account, I kinda feel like it's penalizing me for buying a lot of stuff off of the psn. If they were including more new stuff I think it would be a much better value.

The first month isn't even over yet, so it's still premature to say one way or the other. Still, the concern is there. I bought DeathSpank, and if they turn around and discount it or add it in for free in a month or three, I'll be pretty annoyed.
I can understand that at launch, the service has to use existing stuff, basically, but if they try to give us things that the majority already own or had zero interest in, Plus will fail.
Until, of course, cross-game chat launches. And then it's time for all those who said ridiculous comments like "I would totally pay $5 a month JUST for XGC!" to put up or shut up.
The best thing that has come out of my Plus subscription so far was an automated overnight install of the Blur v1.02 patch.

I really think they need to commit to retroactivey rebating discounts to + members...I think it is one of the first reactions I had...if I was a Plus member my PSN purchases would actually decrease as I'd sit on my thumbs waiting for stuff to go on sale to justify my sub fee.

@Dana Olson: Within minutes of setting up his account he claims HAZE is great, writes a blog called 'what the fuck' and starts talking smack. He claims to be old enough to have a 12 year old kid yet not old enough to know how to use spell check. His misspellings are not even consistent nor phonetically sensible. Mispelling people's names is not an accident.
Anyway...at least he is generating advert revenue with that secret code you have embeded. Did you automatically root his computer when he signed up?

Seriously though, other people have spelled my name wrong here. Usually it's my last name, though. But a lot of people in real life say or write my name wrong, usually it's Dane or Dan. I've seen people who thought Haze was great, usually on GameTrailers - maybe he followed a link from there (we have traffic coming in from there occasionally). And if you look on the PS Blog Share, there are Haze avatars there (though maybe that's because of the lack of selection, I dunno).
As for the kid, well, I can't explain that... lol. Maybe he's 12 and he's pretending to ask for his kid? I mean, what kind of grown man is called Ralphie? You'd think he'd go by just Ralph when he became an adult..
As far as spellcheck, I've seen typos in your posts, my posts, and other staffs' posts. I don't think there is a spellcheck built into every browser (not on PS3 for sure).
Anyhow, he's gone now it seems, probably playing Haze again, lol. *shrugs* We'll see what happens.

So after some weeks of trolling the PS Blog and tweeting Jeff Rubenstein, we finally have clarification about what happens to PS+ freebie DLC:
According to Jeff "Free add-ons expire if your subscription ends. Add-ons you pay for (even if you pay at a discount) are yours to keep for good. The same thing is true for games- free ones expire if you don't renew your subscription. Anything you pay for - even at a discount - is yours forever. Themes and avatars that are free, stay free for good."
Of course, this contrasts with how the EU is handling things:
"Hi, sorry for the cofusion. All the DLC (e.g. Killzone DLC, etc) we are currently offering is not tied to the subscription and you will keep it forever. This will always be the case unless stated otherwise in the description of the content on the store.
The reference in the T's & C's refers to a situation where we may, in the future, offer additional 'Premium game elements' and these may be linked to your subscrition."

Either A you are a lot younger than you say you are, (and that would explain why your English is terrible and the fact that you make very childish remarks and claims. Or B you are trolling intentionally. I have known people from Asia that can barely put together a complete sentence in English that type more intelligently and act more grown up than you claim to be. id subscribe and since then nothing good for me except for critter crush i can't stop playing that game.rumor says playstation plus subscriber will have cross chat and will be able to change their psn id name. Can't wait.
So I subscribed, so far the only benefits I've cashed in on are the Age of Zombies mini, the reduced price for the Fat Princess expansion and the plus theme. I pretty much own everything else that's on the current Plus buffet...
