Do you know how certain games on the PS3 perform a data install so that load times are drastically reduced? Well, it looks like that same feature will be making it's way onto the PSP via Dissidia, Square Enix's new Final Fantasy themed fighter.

PSP owners will have the choice of installing the data in 245Mb, 373Mb or 528Mb amounts depending on their need for quicker loading times and the size of their memory stick. Now, one might see this as bad due to the amount of memory stick space players are using up, on the other hand, this may be a great step forward for the PSP to help diminish what used to be some pretty insane loading times.

I don't mind installs if they're optional, like this is.

I keep a 4GB for Movies Music and a 4GB for games...wish the PSP came with a little slot to hold the extra stick when not in use (duct tape looks bad)

@w.j.R.: I don't run CFW so I kind of NEED my UMD slot to play the game?! (I remember seeing that on Kotaku way back..

@Colin McFedran: In any case, it's a neat, little toy. I've been eyeing it for a while now, though I'm trying to tell myself to buy a couple more memsticks before I'm even to consider acquiring the UMEMD card holder. I've got a couple movies I've been meaning to transfer to memstick... which reminds me. (Mental note, go.)

Memory sticks have dropped so much in price, no one should have complaints that hold any validity, re: storage requirements. I'm pleased, that they offer us a veritable trio of installation options. While I doubt I'll be a day-one purchaser; I've lost a great deal of respect for the current 3-headed beast that is, Nomura, Nojima, and Kitase.
In any case, I'm sure news of this, will stiffen a few dicks amongst the FF nerds the world over. So to speak.
